Meet the Breeds – Airedale Terrier
March 4th, 2010
Airedale Terrier
The undisputed “King of Terriers,” the Airedale Terrier is the largest and hardiest of the terriers, and an all around useful dog. The breed’s coat is hard, dense and wiry, with a softer undercoat, and comes in both tan and black and tan and grizzle. This breed was one of the first used for police duty in Germany and Great Britain and has also been popular with Presidents, including Woodrow Wilson, Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge.
A Look Back
The Airedale is thought to have originated in the valley of the Aire in England, descended from the now extinct black-and-tan type terrier. The first Airedales looked completely different from how they appear today, and were known as Working, Waterside and Bingley Terriers. Eventually, the Airedale became known as a dog that could do it all, and was used for wartime guard, messenger duty, rodent control and hunting birds and game.
Right Breed for You?
The Airedale has a sweet disposition, but when challenged, is not afraid to stand up for himself. Obedience training is important for these quick learners, but make sure to keep it interesting – they can get bored easily! They also thrive with daily exercise. Although relatively easy to maintain, the Airedale coat needs regular brushing and stripping.

Meet the Breeds – Australian Shepherd
March 1st, 2010
Australian Shepherd
Animated, adaptable and agile, the Australian Shepherd lives for his job, which still involves herding livestock and working as an all-purpose farm and ranch dog. He needs a lot of activity and a sense of purpose to be truly content. Today, due to the breed’s intelligence and versatility, “Aussies” also excel in AKC events such as agility, obedience and herding. Their coats can be black, blue merle, red merle and red with or without white markings.
A Look Back
There are many theories about the origin of the Australian Shepherd. Despite its misleading name, the breed as we know it today probably developed in the Pyrenees Mountains somewhere between Spain and France. It was called the Australian Shepherd because of its association with Basque shepherds who came to America from Australia in the 1800s. The Australian Shepherd was initially called by many names, including Spanish Shepherd, Pastor Dog, Bob-Tail, Blue Heeler, New Mexican Shepherd, and California Shepherd.
Right Breed for You?
An energetic breed with strong herding and guarding instincts, the Aussie requires daily vigorous exercise. Although sometimes reserved with strangers, they are “people” dogs that want to always be near their families. Their thick coats require weekly brushing.
What makes a good bully stick?
March 1st, 2010Bully Sticks
Most of the bully sticks found in major pet stores are from India or other parts of the world outside of South America. The living conditions of people and livestock in these countries is less than appealing, and as such, we only sell product from free-ranging South American cattle. These cattle are considered to be “green cattle” as they are given NO hormones, NO antibiotics, NO steroids, and they are fed NO feed.
These cattle typically graze freely on open, wild grass fields, and drink from fresh springs and streams. They grow slowly and naturally, fed NO corn to make them big and fat. Many ask why not buy bully sticks from North American cattle. The reason for this is that most of the cattle in the US are kept in feedlots and encouraged to grow at a much faster rate (via growth hormones) than that of free-ranging cattle.
Another difference between bully sticks on the marketplace is whether or not they are vertically drained and then baked. It is much cheaper to sun dry bully sticks and other natural treats, but it is much riskier as potential diseases and bugs can enter the product much more easily. Our treats and chews are baked—which is more expensive—but this allows for the quality of the product to remain quite high.
All-Natural Bully Sticks are truly different. Most of the bully sticks on the market are irradiated—our product is not. This is due to the fact that irradiation actually destroys nutrients and creates new chemicals in food. All of our products, that are exported from Brazil, are first inspected by the country’s Ministry of Agriculture in accordance with international sanitation standards. Since 1990 Brazil has not registered a single case of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (Mad Cow Disease), the European Union classifying Brazil as being among those countries with the least chance of developing the disease.
Our products are then evaluated by both the FDA and USDA, approved without problem or disease. The bully sticks we carry are also not smoked, which adds a process and ingredients that we believe are just not healthy for our dogs. The problem is, most businesses fail to mention if their sticks are smoked or not. Smoked sticks can tend to look prettier and even be thicker; however, their quality is definitely lacking.

They come with the tendon on and still have some of the meat on the bone for a very tempting, meaty flavor. These, like our other lamb products, are from US lambs and are processed in a human grade, lamb facility. They are great for dogs with allergies or sensitive stomachs.
